My story
I'm Oksana, and I grew up in Ukraine in a kitchen that smelled like cinnamon and cloves every December. My grandmother ran that kitchen like a small, strict, delicious kingdom — she let me help, but only with the parts that couldn't go wrong. My job every year was the polka dots. The roofs came later.
I moved to Amsterdam in 2022. It's a good city, but it doesn't smell like December the way home did — so one winter I got the piping bags out again, just for myself at first. Then for a neighbour who wouldn't stop asking about the smell coming from my window. Then for her friends. Ginger House didn't start with a business plan; it started with a kitchen table that ran out of chairs.
Why I still do this
I don't think of it as running a business — it's the thing my grandmother taught me, handed forward. Every workshop is really an invitation into that kitchen: you don't need experience, steady hands, or a plan. You need a couple of hours, a willingness to make a mess, and maybe a coffee. What you leave with — the cookie, and the story behind it — is yours.
